Gift Giving - The Right Way to Say Thank You

Receiving gifts is one of the most fun parts of any wedding. Sure, this is not the reason that you decided to get married, but you might as well collect some gifts while you are at it. After all, they will help you to get your life started with your new partner. But with that being said, there are many things that you must take into consideration when receiving wedding gifts. Most importantly, you need to be aware of proper wedding gift etiquette.

Generally speaking, you are going to receive a gift from anybody who attends your wedding. In fact, people who you invited and did not show up will probably also send you a gift. After all, this is the proper thing to do is you are invited to a wedding.

A personal Thank You

The most important thing to remember is that you need to personally thank everybody who has attended your wedding. This holds true even if the person did not bring you a gift. While at the reception you should make it a point to walk around to each table to speak with each guest. Tell them how much you appreciate their presence, and that their gift is also going to be put to good use. This is something that you do not want to forget. If you do, your guests may perceive you as being rude and not having time for them.

Now put it in writing

When your big day is over and done with, you are still not out of the dark as far as thank yous are concerned. You will want to send a thank you note to each person who sent you a gift. Although you can wait a couple of weeks to see if anything else shows up on your doorstep, make sure that you do not take too long. Again, this is common courtesy and it will go a long way in showing your guests how much you care about them.

Overall, receiving gifts is a major part of any wedding. Just remember to thank everybody in attendance, and then follow up with a thank you note a few weeks later. This will make you feel better, and will also show your guests that their gift and attendance was greatly appreciated.
